Even the Best Get Infected…They Also Might Need

First of all, I can’t claim to be the best at Computer Security or even being the best IT person out there. Nor can I claim second, third…hundredth…you get the point. However, it is possible for anyone to get infected with a computer virus.

As you can guess, I got a virus on my system. I have been working the last month trying to purge my system of the damage a rootkit created on my computer. The nasty left a hole in my computer that allowed some nasties into my system.

I have been scanning my computer daily for any signs of a virus or other malware and think I may have finally got all the nasty stuff out of my system. A mega dose of ComboFix. Then a daily dose of SuperAntispyware Free Edition and MalwareBytes Anti-Malware followed by  scan by Panda Active Scan 2.0 or Trend HouseCall.

Why so many different products? I have yet to find one product that catches every type of attack out there.  My antivirus program missed the rootkit attack and my initial scans with SuperAnti and MalwareBtyes only got rid of some junk the rootkit was downloading, but it didn’t get rid of the rootkit. It was not until I got rid of the the rootkit using Combofix.

Don’t count on one product to keep your computer clean. Also don’t think more is better. I have referred to this article before, and I recommend it again http://www.maximumpc.com/article/howtos/ultimate_malware_removal_guide_purge_your_pc_junk_files. It is a good read and has saved my computer and home and others at work.
